Happy Thanksgiving everyone! In honor of the holiday, I wanted to share with you all one of my favorite recipes - my grandma's apple pie.
Ingredients:
- 1 double pie crust
- 9 cups thinly sliced, peeled, and cored apples (Granny Smith work best)
- 1 Tbsp lemon juice
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg
- 1 Tbsp unsalted butter
- 1 egg white
- 1 Tbsp sugar
Instructions:
Preheat oven to 375°F. Roll out one pie crust and line the bottom of a 9-inch pie pan.
In a large bowl, mix sliced apples and lemon juice. In another bowl, mix flour, 1/2 cup sugar, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Mix dry ingredients with apple mixture until all slices are coated.
Pour filling into pie crust and dot with butter. Roll out the second pie crust and place on top. Trim and crimp edges.
Lightly beat egg white and brush over top crust. Sprinkle with 1 Tbsp sugar.
Bake for 45-50 minutes or until crust is golden brown and apples are tender. Let cool for at least 30 minutes before slicing.
I hope you all enjoy this recipe as much as my family does. Happy Thanksgiving!
